Seattle’s Construction Boom

In our day to day lives we all notice how much construction is going on in our city and neighborhoods. Cranes, bulldozers and traffic cones have become part of the standard landscape. Recently, the Downtown Seattle Association (DSA) released their bi-yearly Development Guide detailing these construction statistics and the numbers are truly overwhelming.

According to the DSA’s Development Guide, we are experiencing a true construction boom. There are currently 106 active projects totaling over $4 billion dollars in development costs in downtown Seattle. This is the highest number of active projects since the DSA began tracking these statistics in 2005. To further put this in perspective, there are three times the number of apartment units and twice as many total residential units currently under construction than at the height of our last development boom in 2007. These figures do not yet include the planned $1.2 billion dollar expansion of the Convention Center, or the many other private projects that will come about to support the convention business Seattle is aggressively trying to build.

With the current boom well on it’s feet, nearly all of our North Coast Electric divisions are supporting the majority of the build up in some form. Our Supply Solutions Group is providing our “iSAM” product services with on-site inventory solutions while the Construction Division provides switchgear and lighting design, budgeting, and supply. North Coast Lighting is heavily involved with design and build contractors and our Solar Division, National Accounts, Home Automation, and Tool Division all provide individualized and specific services. North Coast Electric is proud to support and participate in the development of the city we live and work in!
